aging membership

Started by: PeterP (11325)

Are we all old in age members of WW Queries where raised about the health of Leccylegs this generated into the usual slanging match also Anne and I was thinking of Peawapp and his beloved Leigh rugby team not posted since July last year. We know more so over the last six months members who have chose not to post but there must be some who through ill health cannot post or have passed away and the families cannot let us know Our kind thoughts go out to them. I was in my early 50's when I joined and I am fast approaching 70.

We're all getting older Peter its the ones who refuse to ' grow up' that are the problem.

“Refuse to grow up” - the best way to be, TomP!

Perhaps in WW’s Neverland, PeterP could be PeterPan and everyone else could be the Lost Boys. I’d love to fly!

“… There are no "lost girls" because as Peter explains, girls are far too clever to fall out of their prams. This was retconned for the 2023 reboot film Peter Pan & Wendy where the Lost Boys (still named as such) now include girls.” (Wiki)

There is a poem about that jo anne, I goes like this.
Little boys come from Mars
and most of them become Stars
Little girls come from Jupiter
and they become more Stupider

only joking .....

I don't post as mutch as I did I used to post more often when there was more comedy posted and less politics, I know that people are allowed to air their vewes but politics get a bit toomutch, foot ball gets pooed but some are interested in it,I like jokes but you don't see many,

Bentlegs a joke especially for you.

Three spinster farmer’s daughters who’d led a sheltered life decided to go to the farmer’s summer ball. Unfortunately all three had large feet and had never bought ladies evening shoes. Anyway they venture into town and head for the shoe shop. Alice at size 10 was easily fixed up with a new pair of shoes, Carol at size 12 was a struggle but a pair was eventually found. Fanny was out of luck at size 13.
The ladies decided that Alice and Carol would go to the ball and Fanny would stay at home.
At the ball the two sisters hit it off with two bachelor farmers who they invited to walk them home.
It was a balmy summer evening as they walked home with the ladies in front and the two farmers walking behind.
One of the farmers remarked ‘you two ladies have big feet’. The response was ‘ wait until you see our Fannys’

TomP, I like the quote Joseph 1 used to post:

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest (wo)men.” Roald Dahl

It’s come as a shock to see it’s nearly 10 years since Joseph 1 last posted! (11th May, 2014) We might not be able to fly, but time certainly does!

Members come and go for a variety of reasons.
As PeterP says, our kind thoughts go out to all who are missing.

I’ve found that, even though we might never have met, online friends tend to stay in my memory.

Living in Lower Ince, I often think of Anne and hope she’s keeping well, and would like to tell her how the closed St Mary’s church building that was formerly the school is now up for auction, and that a housing estate has sprung up where the newer school used to be.

I think you’re right, PeterP, WW Communicate is probably mostly an older population. I felt like one of the younger ones when I joined in my late thirties over 16 years ago, and not many younger people seem to have joined since then.

Hello everyone
I am Ann’s neighbour again she has asked me post for her as she says her name has been mentioned a few times this week.
She is still poorly with an illness that can’t be cured. She is being well looked after and as comfortable as can be.
She looks at WW every day she says it’s like some people read a news paper flirt thing she can do.
Any way she thanks everybody and wishes all of you the best.
Kath

As for age, it looks like I'm probably the youngest here!

Peter:

I think it's safe to say that most members that post here are between 50 and 80, so that's quite a large span in time, which I think is good.

I'm also sad to hear that Anne has an illness which can't be cured, so I wish her all the very best.

I also extend those best wishes to Leccylegs as well.

I agree with Bentlegs post about when there was more comedy on here, and Brian should never have got rid of the Politics section. .

The politics section was destroyed by a couple of local lets say celebrities, who knew how to rile an audience, and I think most people hate politics, in Wigan they vote Labour by tradition, but don't give stuff about the politics.

I remember that, Tommy, but at least they kept their arguments in one place where others were interested in politics.

I despise politics so 99% of the time I steer clear of them as there's no point discussing what can't be changed.

Anyway, to get back to the original post. It is sad that many members no longer post here for one reason or another. There are loads I can remember, such as Cordyline for one. Now he was a very interesting poster and I think with the greatest respect, Bentlegs is our oldest member. We used to have a lot of fun on here, and elsewhere, long ago.

Places can still be fun if we just ignore all the negativity. It is interesting to see posters returning due to the lack of posts from those who constantly stir the pot.

Replied: 5th Apr 2024 at 23:44

It certainly can, Angel. Negativity is destructive and not conducive to a comfortable place to be, but it can be made fun again if we make it!

I think it's a bit sad that those who post negatively have nothing more meaningful in their lives except to make a nuisance of themselves and go out of their way to try to upset folk. Doesn't work for me anymore as I've built up my immunity to them.

Ya know wor'a mean, Angel?

I certainly do Mollie. I'm not about much as Mr Wood has had covid and isn't very well. Seems to have gone to his chest and can't shake it off. Hopefully the antibiotics will work and he will be back to his cantankerous self in no time.
